"I think ravens are striking, and are one of my favorite wildlife subjects. They are intelligent, crafty, agile, graceful, and even mischievous. I like juxtaposing one subject with another unexpected element, in this case the delicate spring blossom branch that this raven has just alighted from. The branch is a nod to my many years of painting in sumi-e (Asian ink painting)."
